1. International Driver’s Document consists of two parts: book and plastic card. Why are they valid only for one year?In 1949 UN countries signed convention on international road traffic. International Driver’s Document was described in this convention as a paper document that has to be renewed every year. Technology of manufacturing plastic cards did not exist in 1949, so IADC added this feature as a security measure. To put it in a simple form think of International Driver’s Document as a paper book (UN convention), and plastic card as an addition to the book for security purposes.

Can I drive here in US with IADC International Driver’s Document until I get the US drivers license?As the matter of fact, you can only drive in US with International Driver's Document if you have valid Drivers License from your country. In your case the answer is yes, you can drive in US. You can not use I.D.L. in the country where your original Drivers License was issued. But you have to keep in mind that International Drivers Document is only intended to be used by people traveling in the country and staying in the country only for a short term.

In order to renew your IDL you need to send us a copy of your expired IDL along with the $30.00 renewal fee + shipping and handling (please visit shipping prices ) and a renewal request.
